    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

    3PL WAREHOUSES

    • What are your 3PL standards?

All 3PLs we use are pre-screened to ensure they have 3 key things:

      • A good management team
      • A gold standard Warehouse Management System
      • A track record of reliability

In addition, they need to have ecommerce cart integration and same day despatch as standard features.

    • Can they meet marketplace requirements?

YES. With same day despatch capabilities, all of the 3PLs we work with can meet the requirements of marketplaces.

Some marketplaces i.e. The Iconic, have very late cutoff times for same day despatch, most 3PLs can meet these requirements however it forms part of the brief for them to confirm.

    • Can I see my orders and inventory levels?

Yes...all of our warehouses provide a portal that allow you to see the status of your orders as well as your inventory levels.

Some are even able to send you notifications when your inventory falls to a certain level.

    • Will I have to manually add my eCommerce orders?

No...all of the 3PLs we work with can integrate with the major ecommerce carts (i.e. Shopify, Woocomerce) as well as the major ERP and inventory systems.

If you use a bespoke checkout or ERP then it is usually possible to integrate via a third party tools or APIs.

    • How do I send in my wholesale orders?

This depends on what works for your business. The majority of 3PLs can accept EDI orders however they all have a way of uploading .csv files containing orders.

    • Will my customer receive a tracking number?

Yes....the 3PLs we work with all provide a tracking number to both you and the customer.

For eCommerce orders, this is usually automatically sent back via the shopping cart i.e Shopify

    • Will I receive an itemised invoice?

Every 3PL bills slightly differently however it is expected that you should receive an itemised invoice of activity/fees.

The costs are not usually itemised for a single order but grouped by activity i.e. Storage, Inbound, Pick/Pack

    • Can the warehouses do custom packing/kitting?

Yes...the majority of our warehouses can pre-kit your products or provide custom packing.

Often this is only viable at higher volumes however it does differ by 3PL.

    AGREEMENTS

    • Do I have to sign an agreement?

Yes...all 3PLs will require you to sign some sort of agreement although the length/detail varies by 3PL.

    • Who is the agreement with?

You will sign an agreement with the warehouse directly.

We will help with organising this however it will be the 3PL's agreement that you sign.

    • Is there a fixed term I have to be with the 3PL?

This depends on the 3PL however it is usually 12 months. Most 3PLs don't charge to onboard you (although they incur expense) and so they would lose money if there was no term.

If the 3PL isn't performing, you will always have the ability to terminate the contract for non-performance (although we've never had that happen using one of our 3PLs)

    PROCESS

    • How long does it take to receive proposals?

We can often have a 3PL proposal to you within 24 hours depending on the 3PL and time of year.

It generally takes no longer than 5 working days to receive back all proposals.

    • My business is complicated. Can I get someone to support me with finding a 3PL?

YES. We have partnered with OmniGrowth to provide consulting support for retailers who require it.

You can contact them on 0406 235 980 or on andrewc@omnigrowth.com.au

    • Can I visit the warehouse?

YES. We encourage retailers to visit the potential warehouse either physically or virtually.

The best time for this is usually after a shortlist has been developed based on the commercials.

    • What's the best way to compare 3PL costs?

Every 3PL has a slightly different way of charging customers.

To do a true apples for apples comparison you need to model both warehousing and freight costs for your business.

We believe this is an essential step as it can save you a lot of money. If you have the skills, you can do this modelling work yourself or OmniGrowth provide this service for $500 ex GST.

    • How many 3PLs will you brief?

      This depends on your requirements.

We have already pre-vetted the 3PLs and have been doing this for many years and so we will generally know who will be the best fit for your business.

We will generally involved 3-4 pre-vetted 3PLs which is about the equivalent of contacting 10-15 3PLs via Google search.

    INFORMATION FOR THE BRIEF

    • What information do I need to supply?

We have provided a download at the start of the brief however you will need to supply information on your requirements for:

      • Inbounding stock
      • Storage
      • Outbound orders
      • Packaging
      • Freight
    • Why do I need to supply so much information?

For an accurate 3PL quote, it is important for the 3PLs to understand as much as possible about your business and your requirements.

    • Is the data I supply kept confidential?

YES...only data required by the 3PLs for quoting is shared. We also have confidentiality agreements with all 3PLs we work with.

While 3PLs are very use to handling confidential information, we encourage you to remove any reference to a customer or their address (apart from postcode) prior to sending to us.

    • Is it mandatory to add my sales and stock data in csv or Excel?

No...but some of the larger 3PLs require this information in order to provide an accurate quote.

The more information you can supply the 3PL, the more accurate the quote, and the less chance of fee surprises once you're using them.
